The University of the Third Age (U3E), which forms part of the University's European Centre of Gerontology, is as from tomorrow accepting applications from people interested in attending its 2009-10 programme of lectures.
This year, lectures will be held as from October 5 at the Floriana centre from Monday to Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. and at the Sliema centre from 5 to 7 p.m. Application forms may be collected from and handed in at the U3E's office on the ground floor of the Catholic Institute, Floriana, from Monday to Friday between 9 and 11 a.m.
A copy of the lecture programme is displayed on the noticeboard. Included in the programme are 'The economics of pension and active ageing' by Gordon Cordina, 'Malta: The relationship between faith, culture and politics' by Prof. Oliver Friggieri, 'Maltese journalism in a contemporary historical context' by Lawrence Grech, and 'Church and State in Malta' by Prof. Joe Pirotta.
Additional lectures are 'Healthy ageing by Sina Bugeja, 'The challenge of biotechnology to faith' by Fr Emmanuel Agius, 'Political issues in the Mediterranean' by Prof. Stephen Calleya, 'Malta's megalithic period' by John Saré, 'Family folklore' by Guido Lanfranco, and 'The Maltese Constitution' by President emeritus Ugo Mifsud Bonnici.
Others include 'Malta's churches, art and treasures' by Tony Terribile, 'The encyclicals of Benedict XVI' by Fr Joe Galea Curmi, 'Contemporary Maltese authors' by Charles Briffa, 'Valletta: The making of a baroque city' by Vincent Zammit, 'The environment and society' by Michael Briguglio, There will also be lectures on 'Shaping the EU policy and its constitution' by Prof. Stephen Calleya, 'Economics of the environment' by Gordon Cordina, 'Modern problems facing the Church' by Fr René Camilleri, 'Baroque paintings in Malta' by Keith Sciberras, and 'Health promotion' by Francis Agius.
There will also be lectures on the German and French languages for beginners and at advanced level by Lina Agius and Alfred Falzon respectively.
