The Point, the shopping mall on Pjazza Tigné at Tigné Point in Sliema, is steadily nearing completion for opening in spring.

By the end of next month, the mechanical and electrical installations and the finishes of the common areas will be complete.

The final phase will see tenants finishing and fitting out their units to be able to move in for the official opening.

Project general manager Edwin Borg said there was an air of great expectation: "We've come a long way and with the standards that we are setting up, The Point will be far from just another shopping base. It is going to be a premium venue where social trends, fashion and lifestyle mesh to create a unique destination. It is not going to be just a 14,000 sqm of retail outlets but a living space. We have spared no expense and left no stone unturned in securing the highest standards."

Much has taken shape already. British retail giant Debenhams, with its 2,800 square metres of the latest designer clothing and fashion accessories, is the biggest tenant on site.

Other well-known brands such as Nike, Guess, Massimo Dutti, Springfield, Reebok, Bata, Lacoste, Women's Secret, Mango, Pull and Bear, J. Piccinino, Oysho, Stradivarius, Mayoral, Segue, Intercomp, Fotovision and Agenda bookstore will also set up shop at The Point.

There will be a large supermarket and catering outlets including Cioconat Lounge and a Gelosia ice cream parlour.

Shoppers will be able to make use of the 1,200 capacity underground parking area.

"Our biggest anticipation for this project does not only stem from the complex in itself, but mostly from what it will represent and the way it will carve out its own identity within the Maltese market," Ben Muscat, chief executive officer of project developer Midi plc , said.

"The Point is expected to consolidate Sliema's position as the island's premier shopping destination. It will set new standards for customers while reshaping current shopping and entertainment trends, not only within the locality itself, but also on a national level."
