Two men charged with defiling two girls in separate unrelated incidents this month have been remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to the charges.
Saviour Fava, 69, of Birzebbuga was charged with defiling a 10-year-old girl in his hometown in the afternoon of September 4 by exposing himself to her. Mr Fava appeared in court wearing shorts, a bright pink tank-top and stood nervously as the court registrar asked him for his personal details.
In the second case, Ivorian Missen Wattara, 19, allegedly tried to stop a 15-year-old girl as she left from a disco in St Andrew Street, St Julians at about 11.30 p.m. on Tuesday.
After she refused to give him her mobile number he allegedly groped her. The accused, a resident of the Hal Far tent centre, held his head low as he sat in the dock throughout the proceedings.
Police Inspectors Louise Calleja and Trevor Micallef prosecuted.
Lawyers Peter Paul Zammit appeared for Mr Fava.
Lawyer Anthony Cutajar appeared for Mr Wattara.
