The Police Commissioner's silence on the latest alleged police abuses is deafening. The minister responsible for the police needs to see that, where the police actions are concerned, they are to be, and seen to be, above board. It's high time that somebody in authority makes a pronouncement and say something before things continue to get worse. I mean, what is the man in the street to think? What are they waiting for?
Ok, for the sake of fairness, all the accusations against the police may be unfounded but the people must be assured that the police are there to protect them and not to harass them.
Furthermore, they are waiting also to hear that those found guilty of abusing their power shall be severely punished. This is very important. The more this lingers on, the higher the chance that people start losing their trust in those who are there to protect them and keep law and order.
There's no two ways about it. We cannot afford having cowboys in our police force. People need to hear these words.
