The barge that exploded last Sunday at Balluta Bay may have been 200 metres away from the shore but certainly not from the swimmers.

I was one of those swimming in the area at 1.30 p.m. What if the barge exploded then? I shudder to think what could have been the repercussions.

Has anybody given it a thought? This is an eye-opener to the competent authorities to either ban swimming totally in the area when the barge is fully laden with fireworks or else move the barge further out to sea.
