Uniform supplier files protest against TVM
A school uniform supplier has filed a protest against the national television station after footage of its shop appeared in a news item about the high price of uniforms.
Paces' School Wear Ltd filed the judicial protest saying a film of its shop front was run accompanied by comments from its customers and editorial comments about costly uniforms.
The news piece was aired on September 1, in TVM's 8 o'clock bulletin, and had a detrimental effect on business as the company was portrayed as having a monopoly on the school uniform market. The company said the report was incorrect because it did not enjoy a monopoly. In fact, it sold the cheapest uniforms on the island.
As a result, the company said its reputation had been damaged and it would continue to be negatively affected because of the report.
It held the station responsible for all damages incurred. Lawyers Mark Mifsud Cutajar and Marie Claire Bartolo signed the protest.

I am one to complain when it comes down to uniforms and how expencive they are, my 2 children go difffrent school so i cannot have hand downs which it would be great,
This year's uniforms are Not from Pace and i thought great as it might be cheaper , but it is not great at all as the quality of the uniform is so shabby bad quality fabric the size of the polo shirts are 3 sizes bigger then my son and as they dont supply smaller they want me to pay for a lager one and have it alltered and i have to pay for the alteration , well at least when i shopped from PACE i never had any problems and the quality of fabric was very good too,

The same problem of shops having a school uniform monopoly has been a big issue in the UK for years now. But times they are a changing! It would be interesting to hear from people how much they pay at this establishment for ' the cheapest uniforms on the island'. I watched a Watchdog consumer program last night where representatives from various supermarket chains such as Asda and Tesco were present. They are able to supply a complete school uniform for less than 5 Euro!
Given that they can do this and still make a profit it makes you wonder just how much some of these suppliers are making from people.
