Squatters' rooms demolished
Illegal rooms close to the White Tower in Mellieħa were demolished by the planning authority, yesterday.
A spokesman for the authority said the rooms, built by squatters without the necessary permit, were also used to trap birds. Furniture found inside the rooms was confiscated.
The site, situated within the buffer zone of the scheduled tower and a nearby military battery, is a conservation zone of ecological importance.

What about the illegal boathouses all with their prive driveways and gardens around them? a few meters away from The White Tower in Mellieha?
Some years ago the government sent the soldiers and police officers to demolish them but the residents blocked the way and did not let the police and soldiers in, REMEMBER??
WHAT HAPPENED AFTER THAT? NOTHING!!
Recently the government officials went to armier to number these illegal boathouses to make them with ground rent and so legalise them! Not forgetting all the public land the Hotels Captured and closed with boundary walls and made private!
IS THE GOVERNMENT GOING TO GIVE THE REST OF THE MALTESE CITIZENS THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE A PIECE OF LAND NEAR THE BEACH AND BUILD A BOATHOUSE LIKE THESE ONES OF ARMIER?
SO THOSE WHO BROKE THE LAW AND DID WHAT THEY WANT ARE GOING TO BE AWARDED FOR THEIR HEROIC DEED.
WELL DONE MR GOVERNMENT!!

Are those the only ones that r built without a permit in Mellieha??? There is a whole shanti town next to the bay all painted in green that even celebrate festas there that is and was built illegally but during the years we call it irregular inhabitation, ending up by people living next to the beach without paying a cent, having electricity tapped etc etc, while the rest of us cannot even set a tent where we want.Is MEPA blind????Or choosey????
