Piano's regeneration plans and open spaces
Żminijietna - Voice of the Left agrees with certain aspects of Renzo Piano's plans for the regeneration of Valletta, while we disagree with others.
We welcome the fact that the entrance to Valletta shall be regenerated. Government investment for these plans will generate employment and upgrade the area. Żminijietna supports such forms of public investment.
We appeal that the theatre should be accessible to various forms of culture and the arts and not restricted to the cultural elite, as is the case with St James Cavalier, which is characterised by restrictive prices for performers and organisers.
Żminijietna agrees with the bulk of Mr Piano's proposals. However, we strongly disagree with the idea to construct Parliament on an open space, thus resulting in the elimination of a public square when such open spaces are already lacking in Valletta.
On the other hand, we agree that parking spaces in Freedom Square are removed, thus resulting in the complete pedestrianisation of the area. Public space is essential for everyday democracy. Traffic management and consultation on this matter should also be taken in consideration. Żminijienta is disappointed that the proposal to have a public library has been dropped.

Renzo piano is a huge fatal mistake we will all regret this . Another project farce. I cant believe that it is going to accepted.
In Germany what was destroyed is being rebuilt. In Malta we are still destroying 64 years later. In Dresden and Berlin and Munich there are still buildings which are awaiting to be rebuilt. The Frauen Kirche just been inaugurated in Dresden. Yet in Malta we choose to make the world laugh at us.

"Public space is essential for everyday democracy" - what does that mean?
