A 24-year old man this afternoon pleaded not guilty to having attempted to seriously injure his former girlfriend when he allegedly tried to strangle her early on Tuesday at a Valletta playground.
Simon Azzopardi, of Valletta, also denied slightly injuring the woman, threatening her, harassing and insulting her.
The court was told that Mr Azzopardi had bought a pram for his two daughters and had then seen the pram in possession of somebody else. He had sent SMSs to his former girlfriend - the mother of his daughters - asking her why the pram was in somebody else's possession. They met at the playground and during an argument he placed his arms around her neck and tried to strangle her.
Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona granted Mr Azzopardi bail against a personal guarantee of €1,000 and warned him not to approach his former girlfriend.
