The Senglea Nursery recently held its annual end-of-season activity. Present for this occasion were all the young members of the nursery, the participants of the summer activities programme, relatives and friends.
Fr Hilary Tagliaferro, the Youth FA president, accepted the nursery's invitation to attend the event.
In his opening address, Stephen Spiteri, the president of the Senglea Nursery, explained the role the nursery has in the locality.
"The nursery's principal aim is to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for the children and youngsters of Senglea," Spiteri said.
"For this reason, many activities organised by our nursery are open to all, not just those who form part of our organisation."
For the second year in a row, the Senglea Nursery organised a six-week summer acitivities programme which featured indoor and outdoor football tournaments and swimming sessions.
Apart from the competitive events, the participating youngsters also had the opportunity to try their hand at boċċi (bowls) and traditional rowing (regatta) and could also learn to play a band instrument.
Having recently formed a women's squad, the Senglea Nursery also have plans to create a waterpolo team. This project will take flight as soon as all the necessary permits are ready, Spiteri said.
On a somber note, Spiteri remembered Dylan Bugeja, a Senglea Nursery U-17 player who died recently.
Fr Hilary's speech was one of praise for a nursery that is working so hard for the benefit of Senglea's youth community.
All the Senglea Nursery players and the participants of the summer activities received mementos in recognition of their contribution.
Fr Hilary also presented a trophy, provided by the Senglea Nursery, to Dylan Bugeja's parents, in remembrance of the young footballer.
