The Westin Dragonara Resort's bars manager Michael Debono was recently awarded the Starwood Presidents Award 2008 for his outstanding leadership skills and techniques.
The president's Award was presented to Mr Debono by general manager Michael Kamsky on behalf of Roland Vos, president of Starwood Hotels and Resorts for Europe, Africa and Middle East Division.
The criteria of this award is based on a number of key areas; mainly the focus on quality of guest experience, focus on employee satisfaction, morale and staff development and general contributions to hotel and staff activities. The candidate should also genuinely demonstrate outstanding management capabilities in order to be eligible for this award.
Mr Debono welcomed and supported the changes introduced by senior management within the food and beverage (F and B) department.
He provided support to the F and B director who joined in 2008 by gaining the trust and buy-in of the current associates. He encouraged the F and B team to follow the lead of the new director, thus paving the way for good leadership.
Mr Debono has been working at The Westin Dragonara Resort since its opening in June 1997. Through his hard work and efforts, he built his way up from a bartender to a resort bars manager.
