Jessie, the Harris Hawk, gazes over the horizon during a Vulture Awareness Day held yesterday at the Blue Grotto belvedere at Wied iż-Żurrieq. Organised by members of the Fridericus Rex Malta Falconers, the event aimed to raise awareness about the need to effectively protect vultures around the world.

We have been flying as a club for years. Only once we had an occasion of a falcon being shot and it was before we founded our club. It was only one occasion. Said bird was wounded but saved from the second shot by another hunter who started shouting at the one shot. So what should one do? Be angry at the one who shot it or be thankful to the one that saved its life? Till now no other accidents happened and our birds fly over many hunters. Should any one of them would want to shoot, who can stop them? But they don't. That's what the club of FRIDERICUS REX has been and will continue doing. Raise awareness!! Thanks to everyone supporting us!

Bon voyage. But not until some good hearted soul from down below loads poor Jessie with lead. Take your parachute with you and be sure to steer lady Jess over the sea to have a soft landing after your exhilirating experience. Good luck.
