The Institute of Health and Safety (IHS) is holding a Defensive Driving course accredited by the National Safety Council of the US. The course will be held on September 16.

Health and Safety committees can contribute to health and safety at the workplace and also help employers demonstrate that they are complying with their legal obligations to consult with employees on health and safety related matters.

Even though driving is a daily task and might appear harmless, driving accidents are very common and can at times be fatal.

Controlling the risks of drivers is, however, very difficult, particularly because supervision is practically impossible and because the driver's safety depends on the driving of others. This is why companies need to train their staff on how to deal with such risks.

A course on Effective Health and Safety Committees will also be held on September 23.

Another course on 'Writing a health and safety policy' will be held on September 24. Every organisation should have a clear policy for the management of health and safety so that everybody within an organisation is aware of its aims and objectives. A good health and safety policy gives a direction and sets a benchmark standard of what is acceptable and what is not.
