An encouraging entry of 16 players took part in last month's 'Handicap' Summer Tournament at Cynergi.
The competition was open to both male and female players who were rated and assigned a handicap that varied according to their opponents. This ranged from a starting -25 points for the top seeded players to -10 points.
In the main event, Nigel Dunkerley gave a very solid performance, showing from the start that he was to be a major contender for the title even though he started all his matches with a heavy handicap.
Dunkerley won the final 2-0 against another valid player, Reuben Azzopardi who had beaten Matthew Borg in a very exciting semi-final.
The Plate competition turned out to be an equally exciting event and the final was a family affair with Simon De Cesare playing sister Sarah. Simon eventually won 2-0.
Alan Pace, Cynergi general manager, said: "We are very happy with the response and the enthusiasm shown by all squash players and this is very encouraging for us to continue to plan these events in the future."
Cynergi and Eden Leisure were the main sponsors of the tournament.
