A waste collector who had his driving licence suspended twice in the past year appeared in court again yesterday.

Giuseppe Zahra, 49, pleaded guilty to driving recklessly, without a licence or insurance.

He was arraigned after he crashed into another car in Żejtun last Wednesday, slightly injuring him.

Last May, Mr Zahra was fined €3,000 and had his driving licence suspended for a year after he admitted to attacking a policeman. Even then, when he was stopped, Mr Zahra was driving without a licence because a court had suspended it for one year in May 2008.

Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna asked Mr Zahra whether he was sure about his guilty plea and the accused insisted on admitting to all the charges.

The court informed the prosecuting officer, Police Inspector Arthur Mercieca, and legal aid lawyer Renzo Porsella Flores he would hand down judgment today. In the meantime, Mr Zahra was remanded in custody.
