A drunken Frenchman who could hardly keep his balance, pleaded guilty of trying to steal a motorbike, even though he was too intoxicated to even get the thing going.
English language student Alexis Buet, 25, mounted a Spanish-made Motorhispamia bike at about 5.20 a.m. on Tuesday in an apparent attempt to get home. However, police officers noticed his drunken state and watched him fall off twice as he tried to get the bike going.
He was arrested and spent the night at the St Julians police station. The day after he paid the motorbike's owner for some minor damage to the vehicle.
He was conditionally discharged for a year.
