'The owners know they are at risk'

People's pets preferences range from cute domestic animals to the exotic and even dangerous such as the three-month-old Bengal tiger cub found earlier this week in a warehouse in Mosta.

One can let one's adventurous pet options run wild because there is no law regulating the keeping of dangerous animals, as long as these are imported legally. But people may have different ideas on the matter.

Saviour Degiorgio of Sliema:
"I don't agree. They should be kept in places adapted for them. Not even dangerous dogs should be kept at home. Take the tiger that was found recently, everyone was saying how dangerous it was."

Donald Cassar of Valletta:
"I don't agree people should keep dangerous animals. The best thing is for people to keep pets like dogs and cats."

Ineż Cassar of Valletta:
"I think domestic animals are the best to keep as pets. There is no place in Malta to keep animals that are normally found in a jungle. Snakes and iguanas are not poisonous but a tiger is dangerous, for example. Once I saw a tiger down there (in Valletta)."

Jennifer Scicluna of Valletta:
"If people keep dangerous animals, then they should not let them out. It's up to them really as long as they don't hurt anyone else. The owners know they are at risk."

Anthea Spiteri of St Julians:
"Such animals could pose a danger to young children."

Natalie Cassar of Valletta:
"I don't agree, especially if there are small children. If it is dangerous, then it is dangerous for everyone."

Joe Meli of Ta' Xbiex:
"If there is enough safety and the owner keeps them as they should, then why not keep them? But if the animal is large, then one needs a zoo and there is no place for zoos in Malta."
