Italy defender Fabio Grosso has left Olympique Lyon for Juventus, the seven-times French champions said last night.

A member of Italy's 2006 World Cup-winning side, the 31-year-old Grosso joined Lyon from Inter in 2007. Lyon gave no details about the deal.

However, reports in Italy said Juventus had agreed a £3m fee.

Juve had been negotiating with the French club for the past few weeks now but were unable to find an agreement until the very last hours of the transfer window.

Donati completes Bari switch

Massimo Donati has left Celtic and signed for Serie A side Bari.

The midfielder has returned to Italy after two years with the Glasgow giants. He had spoken publicly of his desire to quit Celtic last season following a frustrating spell under Gordon Strachan.

But, despite being more involved in the first team since the arrival of Tony Mowbray this summer, the 28-year-old says his decision to return home was for family reasons.

"I asked Celtic for the chance to return to Italy and I am very grateful for granting me that wish," Donati said.

No grudge for Bowyer says Modric

Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric insists he does not blame Lee Bowyer for the tackle that broke his leg.

Modric, 23, will be sidelined for at least six weeks as a result of the injury he sustained in a collision with Bowyer at the start of the second half in Saturday's 2-1 victory over Birmingham at White Hart Lane.

"It was not a ferocious tackle but it hurt awfully and I knew something was wrong the moment it happened," Modric said.

"It's like my whole world has crumbled because I'll be out for at least six weeks. I'm terribly sad."

Refs see red over unpaid wages

French referees have written to the president of the country's Supreme Council of Referees, Jean-Louis Piette, to complain about the late payment of their wages by the Professional Football League (LFP).

"Since the start of the season, referees and assistant referees in the professional sector have received no payment for the work carried out on behalf of the LFP," read the letter.

"Many referees depend almost entirely on the income from their refereeing work. How can this current payment delay be explained without reference to the financial crisis?"

In the letter, the officials explain that they usually receive payment for their officiating in the three weeks after a match.

The letter is the latest episode in a deepening feud between France's match officials and the LFP, which guarantees their salaries by paying 10 million euros per year to the FFF.

Guardiola cools talk of Robinho swoop

Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola insisted that Manchester City winger Robinho was not on the European champions' shopping list.

There had been reports in Spain that treble winners Barcelona were preparing a 40-million-euro move for Robinho, but Guardiola said that it was highly unlikely that either the Brazilian or any other player would be recruited for the new season.

"He (Robinho) will not come. He was Manchester City's star signing last season and it would not make sense for them to part with him now," Guardiola said.

Barcelona have made just three signings this summer with Ukraine defender Dmytro Chgrynskiy joining Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Maxwell at the Camp Nou.

Taylor committed to Newcastle

Newcastle defender Steven Taylor says he is committed to helping the Championship side climb back up into the Premier League.

The highly-rated 23-year-old defender has been linked with a move away from St James' Park during the close season following the Magpies' relegation last term, with Everton and Aston Villa among the reported interested parties.

But Taylor said: "I was part of the team which was involved in taking Newcastle down and out of the Premier League and I want to put it right by being part of the side that takes us back where we belong, in our rightful place in the top flight."

Fowler's adventure finally bears fruit

Robbie Fowler's Australia adventure finally began to pay off at the weekend when the former England striker scored his first goal for the A-League's cellar-dwelling North Queensland Fury.

Fowler, the struggling club's captain and marquee signing in its first year in the expanded competition, slotted home a neat half volley after connecting with team-mate James Robinson's cross in the Fury's 3-3 draw with Adelaide United.

"We've shown we are definitely going the right way, a few performances more like that and we'll give not just a team but every team in the league a good game," Fowler said.

Fury remain rooted at the bottom of the A-League standings, however, having conceded 12 goals after the first four rounds and they remain nine points behind undefeated leaders Sydney FC.
