Nicky Farrugia to again attempt Enduroman challenge

Video: Mark Zammit Cordina

Following a very successful career mainly in ultra distance events, Nicky Farrugia will again attempt the Enduroman Arch to Arc contest, known as one of the most gruelling and the most challenging endurance events known to man.

The event is planned to start on September 9.

The challenge will test the body and mind of the most experienced ultra endurance athletes, starting with a 140 kilometre run from London’s Marble Arch to the Dover coast. This will be following by swimming across the English Channel to the French coast and finishing with a 290 kilometre bike ride from Calais to the Arc de Triomphe.

The current world record was set by Eddie Ette and stands at 81 hours 5 minutes.

Nicky attempted the Enduroman Arch to Arc challenge earlier this year but had to stop short when he was lifted from the channel, a mere one mile away from the French coast. Unfortunately the weather conditions and the temperature of the sea did not help at all.

Despite Nicky’s 49 years, he is still making records and giving younger athletes a run for their money. He’s garnered more trophies and medals than people have socks.

Gregarious, talkative, intuitive, a health ‘freak’ who likes sweets, he is also a family man who prefers to stay at home with his wife and three daughters.
