More help sought from embassies

Assistance from Maltese embassies abroad were contacted more than 12,500 times in the first eight months of this year, the Foreign Ministry said.

It said that they were also contacted 400 times by businessmen interested in investing in Malta.

The ministry said that during this period it had taken part in two commercial delegations - to Poland and Qatar. It also took part in other delegations organised earlier in the legislature.

Two high level conferences for Maltese ambassadors and consuls were organised during which Foreign Minister Tonio Borg asked for Maltese embassies to be Malta's showcase when it came to investment and tourism.

Several bilateral agreements were reached with France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Montenegro, Switzerland, the United States and Qatar.
