It looks as if we are not the only ones in malta to get an increase in fuel prices, i just this minute heared on SkyNews that petrol has done up 2cents as from to-day in the UK. this is why inflationten tend to rise cause of the cost of deliveries and so on, everything else follow suit.

John Borg: Fuel was not subsidized. In fact the government heavily taxes it. So, The government imposed the tax on the cost of the fuel and then charges 18% VAT on top of it.
When the government – any government, is asked why they do not reduce the excise tax on fuel their reply is always the same “so that people don’t see cheap prices, take to their cars and harm the environment”. It is a nice excuse if taken at face value, but in fact it shows how the government is only interested in raking in the money from a sure source.
And we have seen the subsidies being eroded for the last 5 years, for in the eyes of a spindrift government, the money saved on subsidies is simply more money to spend in the most unwise fashions. You and I and our children are still being burdened with debt.

We sold our country, our soul and ourselves (not me) to the eu petty dictators which ordered the Government to terminate the oil agreement with Libya because by getting cheap oil they said we were causing unfair competition to the other eu countries. That is what eu membership means for us.

@James Green:
"Neither the Reds nor the Blues ever bothered to advise us exactly how much tax we are paying on every litre of fuel. I seriously doubt we'll ever know, probably because it's way too high."
Have a check abroad, then, fuel prices are a lot higher, purely because of tax. Yes, they have higher wages, but they also have longer distances, so it evens out. If I tell my friends abroad that I fuel up once every three weeks, usually 40 or 50 euros, they do get a bit envious. Just visiting a friend in the Netherlands using a rental car took 17 euros in fuel alone.

I have been paying a higher price for diesel for the past two months, as I incurred Euro200 in expenses to have the diesel pump of my car repaired due to damage done by low quality diesel supplied by Enemalta.

No matter who will be in government, they will not do anything about the fuel, water or electricity prices because it is one of the biggest incomes for the government and also because they have no control over the price of oil. All politicians are well trained to find the best excuses to shut the public up and they get away with murder. Yes, we do need a change in administration but I do not believe that there will be any major changes. All we will hear is the same excuses all over again. Remeber the 'Kaxxa Vojta' ?

In many oil producing countries fuel is a lot cheaper than Malta, in some other oil producing counties like Canada for example, fuel is more expensive than in the USA who buys some of the commodity from Canada, the reason is higher fuel taxes in Canada than in the USA. In Malta fuel is still cheaper than most EU countries and the distances covered in Malta are a lot less. Having said that fuel taxes in Malta are very high considering the lower wages here.
The government should look into this and give the Maltese people a break once in a while to alleviate the cost of fuel and electricity. Or is to late as the debt burden is too high, money has to come from somewhere?

For those saying that fuel is expensive only in Malt a just check on this site:http://www.aaireland.ie/petrolprices/
Maybe all these countries don't know that they can get fuel cheaper from Libya?
The problem is that who ever will be in government have to adopt to the Global situation.
Gonzi or Muscat? we will still need to go to work and pay for the fuel as per the international market. For the month of August the average for the EU for diesel was Eur1.048 while in Malta Eur0.95c Unleaded Eur1.167 in Malta Eur1.13

Just some figures from Germany:
Prices for petrol and diesel have continuously been falling over the past three weeks.
Beginning of August a litre of unleaded petrol had an average price of Eur 1.45, today the average price is at Eur 1.29.
Tendency is further down. In France, Austria, the Netherlands and Switzerland the same tendency can be noticed, even in the UK, in Ireland and in Denmark.
But not in Malta. THINK ABOUT IT!
Monopolies are poison for consumers.

This is insane, why another increase, there is no doubt that we are paying all these increases
because of the unprofesion management that enemalta have.
Compare fuel prises with other countries, and quality.
Enough is enough, and something have to be done, why we the people have to suffer for such
carelessness fron enemalta.Ellectricity, gas, fuel, are all on the increase.
This is another quality of life product, that we are withnessing in malta.

@John Micallef Rest assured that Gaddafi is not a stupid person at all otherwise he would'nt have remained in power for all these years. The point is that its not that easy to go and deal on oil especially as the present government introduced the visa to Libyans after accession in the EU thus making it difficult for them to enter. Many will say good riddance but libyans used to to leave millions of LM annually.

@ J Oatmon What a retarded comment. If diesel fuel is suspected of being adultrated then spot checks should be the order of the day with commensurate penalties for the guilty. Raising the price of kerosene to prevent this is IMHO taking the cheapest simplest shortcut, resulting in further hardships for those who still use Kerosene for thier cooking, heating and lighting needs. And yes there are still a few around and no they cannot afford otherwise.

Why are you worrying..........another three years and 9 months more, then we will start enjoying the fruits that we are planting now. But don`t forget that then, we will have the general elections, and go and vote for Gonzi P.N. Then we start all over agian....plant the fruits,do the sacrifices and so on. I am a labourite, and I wish to ask if in this country have an opposition, because for me I see only one party state. I cannot see socialism, both parties went center,no left,no right. And what about the Unions ? Is it time to be abolished ? because for me, they are there for nothing. We are in a situation that in most cases, if somebody calls for a strike, the employer will thank the Unions. I wish to know how many collective agreements have been done by all the Unions comparing, today and 10 years ago. Any way.........always keep in mind that ..............FLIMKIEN KOLLOX POSSIBLI. Then watching One T.V.we are living in hell, the Net we are in Heaven, then watching P.B.S we are in the purgatorju. We are living in 3 different countries. believe it or not.

I think the rise in the kerosene price is to discourage it being mixed with diesel, and being used as a cheaper alternative by bus and truck operators. The matching of the prices should reduce air pollution from the use of adulterated fuel (kero + diesel).
Worth every penny IMO.
