I read the article All Maltese Grapes For Marsovin Wine (August 27), explaining how, for the first time in 90 years, Marsovin is producing enough hand-picked grapes in Malta to be totally self-sufficient with locally-made wines.
I am happy to hear the grape quantity has increased in Malta and hope the years ahead will be fruitful in every way.
As the article noted, it may be difficult to compete with mass-producing winemakers in Italy, Spain and France. However, I believe Marsovin should highlight its "human touch" by spotlighting that the Merlot grapes are all hand-picked in Malta.
The harvest would also gain traction if they could have Jewish rabbis pronounce the wine "kosher" and then have a wine taste test among the rabbis and various members of the Sovereign Military and Hospitaller Order of St John of Jerusalem, of Rhodes and of Malta. Such an endeavour would garner increased awareness of the wines as well as promote the area favourably.
A sacramental seal of approval would clearly define the product as worthy of the reverent pronouncement: "Fruit of the vine and work of human hands, it will now become our spiritual drink. Blessed be God, forever".
The preference taste test, by the same token, would give a seal of approval on which wines tasted best with which meals for the casual drinker's uses.
I wish the Marsovin wines much success. Cheers... to high quantity and high quality.
