The Civil Society Index (CSI) - a comprehensive analysis of Maltese civil Society - has been launched.

The project is part of a global initiative coordinated by CIVICUS - the World Alliance for Citizen Participation.

CSI is a participatory needs assessment and action planning tool which aims to create a knowledge base and build momentum for civil society strengthening initiatives which contribute to positive social change.

The research is being undertaken by The People for Change Foundation, which aims to promote social cohesion and respect for human rights and empowerment.

Christine Cassar, lead researcher on the project, said: "Civil society has come to play a central role in governance and development, both at a national and international level." As part of the study, a directory of civil society organisations is being created. Entities wishing to be included in the directory, or who are otherwise interested in supporting the project, are invited to contact The People for Change Foundation at civilsociety@pfcmalta.org.
