Valletta sent a clear warning of their attacking power when they dismantled their fierce rivals Floriana to the tune of six goals to nil in a one-sided derby at the National Stadium this evening.

It was a five-star performance from the Citizens who were clearly in a class of their own for much of the match. They were all over their opponents from the outset and once Terrence Scerri put them ahead after 17 minutes there was no way back for a disjointed Floriana side.

It was all Valletta in these early stages their pressure finally told on 17 minutes when Priso’s cross found Cruyff who nodded the ball into the path of Scerri who blasted the ball past Paris.

Valletta doubled their lead four minutes from the break. Priso was again the provider when his cross found Cruyff who beat Julian Briffa to the ball before firing past Paris.

Valletta were soon on the offensive after the interval and on 48 minutes they were awarded a penalty when Paris charged out of his goal to upend Scerri who burst into the area and Priso easily dispatched the ball into the net put the Citizens 3-0 ahead.

Priso struck again two minutes later when in another swift raid he exchanged the ball with Scerri before rounding Paris and depositing the ball into an empty net. Scerri hit his second on 65 minutes when he beat the offside trap and lobbed over the onrushing Paris before tapping the ball into an empty net.

The rout was complete in time added on when Priso squared the ball to substitute Ian Zammit who fired the ball into the top corner of the net amid the huge celebrations of the City fans who were toasting an emphatic victory over their eternal rivals.
