Three Nigerians arrested following cocaine haul
Three Nigerians have been arrested following a cocaine haul late yesterday, the police said.
They said that 59 capsules containing 530 grammes of cocaine were found in the possession of one of two Nigerians stopped by the police at about 10 p.m.
One of the Nigerians is 27 and resides in Marsa, the other is 20 and lives in St Paul's Bay. The police later arrested a third Nigerian, also living in St Paul's Bay, in relation to the find.
The three men are expected to be arraigned shortly.

Kick them out of Malta.
Who is or are issuing permits for them to remain in Malta?
Can the people know whether it is the same person(s) who are issuing permits for them to stay in Malta?
Nigerians do not qualify for anything except their internet money scams.

@ Louise vella - shush or you will wake up the Government. It is sleeping throughout the whole of summer. This truly is a tired government. They want to do nothing. Just like the final days of the Borg Olivier Government. The shame is that there is no alternative to this government. Labour is passe', old timers who ruined Malta when they were in power and the people will never trust them. That's why we have a tired mule.

Why are these nigerians in Malta. Why does the government keep taking us for a ride. We have had enough. And why doesn't PL speak up on these type of situations.

If I may ask, how did these Nigerians pass through our immigration system? Bugibba is full of these people. Are they included in our tourist statistics? If so, this year is one of the best tourist record. Well done!! our government does not need to spent anymore money on advertising, they will come along without the need of a passport.

@T.Gauci. The point is that in Malta we have organised crime ie Mafia dealing with drugs, robbery, blackmail - the usual Mafia stuff - but these Mafia bosses are never caught - obviously because they can buy the silence of people - or better still - make them shut up or else...That's how Mafia works - and it is alive in Malta unfortunately!

Pushers don't exist, it was a term coined by those waging the (losing) war on drugs. No one tries to put people on drugs - there's demand for drugs and there's people who supply them. End of story. No one is putting anything in your drink while you're at the bathroom - you have to pay for that ;)

@ Louise Vella...where do you live? Answer this one: Why are these Maltese in Australia and not in Malta? Why are these Maltese in England and not in Malta? When will they be sent to Malta again? Aren't people free to decide where they want to live?

Hmm.. Some people on these comments have become tiresome and predictable. As soon as it is an African who is caught doing something illegal in this country all hell breaks loose. If it is anyone of fairer skin then you won't find all this bashing accompanying the news article. Kinda makes you wonder...

@T. Gauci
My point is that while this is an improvement to catching kids smoking weed, still not enough being done for this very underrated problem - cocaine. I'm not talking abt drugs in general but cocaine. While it is as harmful or even more than heroin, it's becoming socially accepted used in places such village feasts, weddings.
Catching the mules is good, but not enough. A crackdown on both demand and supply is urgent. In other situations, a crackdown on supply is nearly futile since where there is demand there is also supply. Cocaine today is an exception. Cheaper coke and even tailor made to suit different people's needs is the result of this surplus in supply.

Why are these Nigerians in Malta and not in Nigeria? When will they be sent to Nigeria?

1) Positive - At least Cocaine not Marihuana 2) Positive - People caught are traffickers not users/addicts 3) Negative - Still the people caught are the mules. While more than just 'street pushers', still, the big guns are untouchable.

I ask what are Nigerians doing for work in Malta - they have no special skills except they are renowned for internet scams and drug dealing throught the world. How do they get to stay and live in Malta and who employs them?

The Nigerian mafia is also in Malta, not just in Spain and Italy and the Maltese government should warn the Maltese of the danger they possess.

Wow 530 Kilogrammes of cocaine in 59 capsules. Were these giant capsules or what? This Nigerian who was carrying 530 kilogrames in weight must be a giant and a very strong one too when one considers that an average male person weighs 78 kilogrammes. I think whoever is reporting meant gramms right???

I think there is a huge mistake. 'They said that 59 capsules containing 530 kilogrammes of cocaine' I dont think that half a ton would fit in the Nigerians luggage :p It would be one of the biggest drug hauls in Malta.

"59 capsules containing 530 kilogrammes " An average of 8.93 kilos per capsule?!? That's one heck of a capsule! ;-)
