Nationalist MEP Simon Busuttil filed three libel cases against Labour media and the General Workers' Union daily l-orizzont in connection with reports about the law firm he is an associate in.
Dr Busuttil said the reports contained false allegations about a room in a building used by Ganado Sammut law firm in Valletta. The government had issued a public call for tenders so the room may be rented out.
The Labour media alleged that the whole building was up for rent and it had been rented to Dr Busuttil who was given preference. The cases were presented against Glenn Bedingfield, head of One Radio and Television, KullĦadd editor Felix Agius, l-orizzont editor Frans Ghirxi, PL general secretary Jason Micallef and PL president Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi.
Dr Busuttil said that while, as a public figure, he was willing to take criticism, he was not ready to accept baseless attacks on his integrity.
