Agreements signed with Qatar

Qatar has shown an interest to invest in Malta, especially in the education and tourism sectors, President George Abela said this afternoon.

Dr Abela, who today met Qatar’s Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani in Doha, is in Qatar on a two-day visit. He is accompanied by Foreign Minister Tonio Borg.

He said that the aim of the meeting had been met as six agreements in different sectors were signed between the two countries.

This evening, President Abela and Dr Borg are invited to a state dinner at the Amir’s Palace.

Before they arrived in Doha, President Abela visited the Tecom Investments Dubai Internet City in Dubai, where he was given information about the company and updated on the development of Smart City in Ricasoli, Kalkara.

Tomorrow, the President is expected to address a business forum which will also be attended by 26 businessmen who are forming part of the Maltese delegation. The businessmen are in Qatar to explore investment opportunities.
