A man who was accused of having a relationship with another man's girlfriend was yesterday charged with seriously injuring the man with a punch on the face on Sunday.

Ryan Dimech, 30, was allegedly approached by Stephen Borg who accused him of having a relationship with his girlfriend. An argument broke out and Mr Dimech punched him in the face, badly bruising him, it was alleged.

In yesterday's arraignment, Mr Dimech pleaded not guilty to the charge and to breaching the public peace.

Police Inspector Kevin Farrugia said that Mr Borg was still recovering in hospital.

Lawyer Patrick Valentino asked the court to grant his client bail as he worked at his father's company and without him, his father would suffer great financial losses.

Magistrate Miriam Hayman granted the man bail against a personal guarantee of €20,000 and a deposit of €3,000.
