Not the right time for more social housing
I was surprised by Żminijietna's appeal to Mepa that the development in the area known as Għirgħien in Birżebbuġa should include a social housing project. Why should every development in the south of Malta include social housing?
The south of Malta is already saturated with social housing, and lacking in open spaces. Besides, one cannot but mention the industries, including the Freeport and power station, which are also having a negative effect on Birżebbuġa.
This appeal for social housing comes at a time when property value is not on the increase. While this is very good for first-time buyers, I see no point in building more housing.

Perhaps it's good time for you to buy but not for most.
Due to the govt. retracted from developing more housing project in B'Bugia and all other
villages, prices shot up to 50% of nornal market price.
The site 'il ghirghien' is barren and waste land, and the area t is safe from floooding, being 12 metres above sea level.
Kalkara is surrounded with vacant land, and two/three housing projects will be GOD send to
the community.
