May I congratulate Ileana Curmi for her Talking Point article (August 21) in praise of the nursing profession for their admirable work which she rightly describes as a vocation. And it is good to see that Malta's university has for some time now been accepting students taking a BSc. degree in nursing.

As chairman of the board of management of the MMDNA (Malta Memorial District Nursing Association) may I add my praise for the 60 or so MMDNA nurses who carry out home nursing for its members and community patients on behalf of the Health Department. It is worth noting that during the month of June 2009 these nurses made just over 37,000 home visits, covering general care for surgical cases and injections for several housebound patients.

MMDNA nurses work in all weathers, rain or shine, Sundays or public holidays and play a most important part within Malta's nursing profession which deserves all the praise showered upon it by Ms Curmi.
