Daniel Massa's thesis on 'presumptive ethics' and its connection to mobile phone base stations (The Sunday Times, August 16) included some distorted arguments.

Statements such as "profit motives have led to a quasi-complete relaxation of morality" when referring to the Curia do raise eyebrows when one considers that out of 2,200 antennae in Malta, only 43 are hosted on Curia property.

The Italian Bishops' Conference objected to antennae on Church buildings not on medical grounds but because they "compromise the univocality and visibility of Christian symbols", as Prof. Massa quotes.

If ever the relevant authorities confirm Prof. Massa's belief that electromagnetic fields cause leukaemia, then all antennae should be eliminated. The Curia will be at the forefront of the process.
