Gozo Bishop Mario Grech conferred the Ġieħ il-Parroċċa award on Salvu Debrincat during Pontifical Mass at the Cathedral in Victoria on August 15, feast of Santa Marija.

For the past years Mr Debrincat undertook the task of finding the 20 bearers of the statue of Santa Marija as well as bearers for the Good Friday procession.

After Mass Mgr Grech made a donation to Mgr Giovanni Gauci, archdeacon of the Cathedral Chapter, for the restoration of the Cathedral façade. The works are expected to cost about €120,000. The bishop urged other parishes to follow suit.

On behalf of the Cathedral parish Archpriest Joseph Attard donated a reproduction of the Assumption altarpiece to Mgr Grech on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of his priestly ordination.
