A man in his twenties is expected to be arraigned in the coming days after a cage with 39 protected birds has been confiscated by the police.

Another two men, also in their twenties. were arrested on Thursday after they were found in possession of two weapons and ammunition while at sea in the Mellieha area. They are from Mosta and Gzira.

The police said that the cage was found by officers from the Administrative Law Enforcement, who were working with enforcement officers from the Malta Environment and Planning Authority, last night in the whereabouts of Mtahleb.

Most of the birds were ‘little stints’ and ‘sand pipers’. They were passed on to Mepa’s Environment Protection Directorate’ to be freed in their natural environment.
