The Labour Party said the inauguration of the cruise liner berthing facility in Senglea was not enough and called for a holistic tourism plan for the Cottonera.

Opposition spokesman Marie Louise Coleiro Preca quoted from a report presented to the tourism authority ahead of the arrival of the first cruise ship at Boiler Wharf on Wednesday: "The location would as yet appear unprepared for the direct and indirect economic impact that regular arrivals are likely to generate."

Rather than manage by crisis, she said, a plan should be laid out to attract tourists to unique attractions while sprucing up the Three Cities.

However, the Nationalist Party said Labour was being negative despite the work being done in the area. It told the opposition to rise above politics and said hoped the Party would not remain so negative.

The PN went on to list its planned projects for the area, including the recently announced regeneration of Dock No.1.
