Doctors removed the cast from Pope Benedict's right wrist today just over a month after he broke it in a fall, the Vatican said.

An X-ray showed the wrist had healed.

The 82-year-old pontiff, who uses his right hand to give his blessings, broke the wrist when he fell on July 17 while on holiday near Italy's northern border with France.
