Redknapp raves over unstoppable striker Defoe

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp believes Jermain Defoe is in the form of his life after the England striker's hat-trick destroyed Hull.

Defoe's treble and goals from Wilson Palacios and Robbie Keane inspired Redknapp's team to a 5-1 win at the KC Stadium on Wednesday.

Stephen Hunt briefly offered Hull a lifeline when he made it 2-1 but Spurs' victory was never in doubt as the north London team went top of the Premier League.

After several seasons where Defoe promised more than he delivered the former West Ham star finally looks the finished article.

He scored twice for England in last week's friendly against Holland and Redknapp said: "It was a terrific exhibition of attacking football. The movement, passing, pace - I played with four forwards and really took it to them. We looked dangerous every time we had the ball.

"Defoe looked almost unstoppable, his form is absolutely electric. He looks stronger than I have ever seen him and I have known him since he was 14.

"He has done a lot of work in the gym and he looks even more explosive. If he continues to play like that he has got no problems."

After beating one of the title favourites in Liverpool on Sunday, Spurs have made an impressive start to the campaign.

It is only the second time that they have had a 100 per cent record in the league after two games in 14 years.

The only downside for Spurs was the loss of goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes with a thigh injury in the first half.

Redknapp said: "We will have to wait and see if he is going to be out long term.

"If he is we will have to look at that because that only leaves me (Carlo) Cudicini."
