Etienne Barbara will be playing for Hibernians this season after agreeing to put pen to paper to a one-year deal with the Malta champions yesterday.
The former Malta forward had been on the look-out for a new club this summer after deciding to part ways with German Regionalliga side SC Verle last May.
Last month, Barbara underwent a trial with English championship side Sheffield Wednesday but failed to earn a contract.
The former Sliema forward was then approached by Floriana and Hibernians and after protracted negotiations the 27-year-old decided to accept the offer tabled by the Paolites and is now looking forward to this new challenge.
"I'm relieved that my future has been finally sorted out," Barbara told The Times.
"After I left SC Verle, my heart was set on trying to earn a contract with another foreign team but unfortunately this failed to materialise.
"Although I'm still determined to move abroad in the future, I want to help Hibs fight for the title. I believe that there is enough quality to challenge the top teams and I'm looking forward to the new season."
Barbara is expected to make his debut for the Paolites on Sunday when the Malta champions open their league campaign against Marsaxlokk.
