A man who admitted to drink driving was let off with a conditional discharge for a year and a fine of about €500 yesterday.
Paul Sciberras, 26, of Paola, was stopped by the police when they realised he was driving recklessly on Wednesday at around 7.50 a.m. in Gżira.
When he got out of the car, he violently resisted and threatened the police officers. Yesterday he apologised in court for his actions.
He pleaded guilty to those charges and to disobeying police orders, as well as to driving recklessly while drunk. Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna took into consideration Mr Sciberras's apology and the fact that he immediately admitted to the charges.
The man was conditionally discharged for one year, fined €465.87 and had his licence suspended for six months.
"Thank you," Mr Sciberras told the magistrate after the sentence was handed down.
"Be careful," were the magistrate's parting words.
Police Inspector Jesmond Micallef prosecuted. Lawyer Stephen Borg Cole appeared for Mr Sciberras.
