A former AFM patrol boat is to be scuttled off Comino on Monday, five years after it was decommissioned.

P-31 will sink to its final resting place close to Comino tower, to become an artificial reef and diving attraction. The scuttling is to take place between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. but will be put off for the next day if conditions are not right. The operation will be coordinated by Cassar Ship Repairs.

The vessel, part of the Kondor class, was bought from the former East German Navy. Its sister-ship, P29, was scuttled in August 2007 off Cirkewwa (picture).

The two vessels were, at the time, the biggest units in the AFM fleet, characterised by a big aft-deck.
