Unfortunately, decisions are taken, whether legally or not, without all the persons concerned being consulted.

This new parking scheme has created controversy and rightly so. The residents, the families of the residents, the businesses and employees of these businesses will all be affected.

My fear is that behind this parking scheme is an element of politics, to safeguard votes.

Personally, I do not see a happy solution and if it were for me I would leave everything as it was and maybe go a bit further and try to find more spaces by checking all the reserved parking spaces and re-consider whether these spaces are still merited.

Parking is a hot issue and the situation is going to get worse if the extraordinary number of imported cars persists.

We all pay road taxes and we all have the right to park in any street anywhere we like in Malta and Gozo without restrictions. The authorities' job is to find areas where they can build multi-storey car parks, whether underground or at street level.

In Sliema there were private companies who were willing to build car parks, however the residents turned them done and now is it fair that they are demanding parking spaces?

The only people happy with this situation are the wardens, because they will be laughing all the way to the bank. Otherwise it is a no-win situation.
