Mayor not in a position to respond?
I would like to join the long list of contributors who have written regarding the shabby and overall dirty appearance in St Paul's Bay and the surrounding areas falling under the jurisdiction of the St Paul's Bay local council. Wardens are conspicuous by their absence, consequently filth, haphazard parking and tables occupying pavements are the order of the day.
My complaints to the council have proved futile. On the other hand, the approach by a council official (name supplied on demand!) was most unethical and I would like to condemn publicly the shoddy treatment meted out to me.
Do these people understand that they are on the taxpayers' payroll and hence the minimum one expects is respect towards the "employer"?
I was told that the mayor will not be available before September and I was given her mobile phone number which rings incessantly without reply - I only hope she reads the papers!
Admittedly, she is not meant to be present at all times but is in duty bound to ensure that things are being taken care of.
I urge the mayor to intervene thus ensuring that such abominable behaviour will never be repeated.

It seems that the Public toilet cost was around €200k as reported on a local news paper today .
is it possible ?.
What a shame ,considering that other important sites (like the 2 playing fields ,streets re surfacing etc ) could have been regenerated ,but unfortunately the toilet structure won the bid.

I believe that by paying our taxes we are doing something for our country, which taxes in turn pay the people employed at the Local Councils, so at least we should be treated with the respect due to us. For the record it was John F. Kennedy who made that statement.
I think the responsibility of this issue lies solely with the Local Council and not the Central Government.
Government is funding the Local Councils for this purpose.

While there are people offering help and some will join them, why not Local Council takes immediately action to open the enormous war shelter situated under the village of St Paul’s Bay. At least it will be protected. I had brought attention several times for this last 3 years. I have entered my self in it, and 30% of the mentioned had been excavated in several construction work. The shelter starts from triq il Paci and suppose to end up near Tarragon restaurant. Pleas take action for the rest and unique shelter at St Paul’s Bay

Most of complaints mostly are about dirty appearance. Local council should issue a policy AS SOON AS POSIBLE to ban smoking on all beaches. All our beaches are overflowing with cigarettes filters. Have a look at the beaches of tal-Ghazellin, White rock, Sirens, Ta Fra Ben etc. To issue such policy, does not involve any expenses or a lot of work. LC will have a good backup by everyone and sure other LC will do the same policy for all beaches.

HI Mr Galea , it seems that your interest in the local council overides all others, you addressed me stressing to help ,yes if there is need to i will for sure.
but i am not interested in weaving others job who are elected by thier fellow electorate,
the effort should be shouldered by all, not blaming any one ,,
May be our local council needs to split up from bugibba and qawra , so to focus more in our locality ,my interest is in st Pauls Bay where i proudly live .
.
by the way the toilet mentioned is located next to sirens waterpolo pitch.

@ Hon Censu Galea MP.
As you already indicated in one of your many comments defending various issues related to St Paul's Bay Council, I have offered my voluntary services to the Council, a couple of weeks after the last local Council Election and again recently, only to be snubbed by the same Council. I have full proof of my statement and can forward copies of emails exchanged to anyone who is interested.
It that the reason that some fail to offer their assistance as they suffered the same faith!

Apparently only a couple of answers were easy to answer in the previous postings.
Is there a reason why all the pedestrians near St Paul's Church that were in good condition were changed ?
As Mr cuschieri well said go and check out the most dangerous swings in Malta they are open 24 hours just behind Bov.
No wonder if we will hear of a tragedy just check out the railings between The School and the Tower. (This is not a joke people could die)
Is there a reason why before the Euro elections we had a facelift on our roads?
Please do remember that we pay taxes and we deserve a good service from Local Councils. Local Councils are not a school for future politicians to gain contacts and experience at our own expense. This is not a game we invested all of our money to buy our houses and as an excuse for the poor service they blame the Tourists and the People which come for summer..........

There is no need in doing meetings , just pop in a car and have a trip in the core of st Pauls bay. Our village is in need of special attention, we just urge all the council members to get back on track for the sake of our village.

I beg Ms Graziella Galea to see for herself the way parking is taking place in Emmanuel Pinto street. There have already been complaints regarding this matter, but serious action has NOT been taken!!!!! Omerta' is the word that suits best!!!!!!!!

Once someone said, 'Ask not what your country should do for you, but what you should do for your country"
Or something similar.
I invite all those who wrote (with the exception of one, who already offered his commitment), to come forward and participate in making our locality much better than it is.
With all due respects to everyone, our locality suffers a lot from the fact that many people are here on a temporary basis. They have a right to be here, on holiday or otherwise. However they have no right to think that while on holiday they could do whatever they want, wherever they want.
As for the public toilets, these are open for the public to use, at the council's expense.
As for St. George's Street, I have personally tabled a number of parliamentary questions, so that the Water Services Corporation which created the mess takes the responsibility to redo the street. So far to no avail. I know the council and some residents put their pressure as well.
Finally those who want to do something for the benefit of this locality should contact me at cgalea@waldonet.net.mt. or 99423149

While agreeing with all comments that St Paul's Bay is shabby and needs a good clean up.
With regards the position of the Mayor presence, I say the Council employs a team of administrators, and I feel that they are the ones who should be administering our comments to ensure the place is kept tidy, and they should be grateful to us for bringing thiese matters to there attention. I think that is what they are employed there for and not the Mayor or the Councilers.

I invite Ms. Grech to the council office so that we can have a meeting regarding her complaints, and I will try my best to take care of her and any other person's complaint, in the interest of the locality. Those who are prepared to participate in the better upkeep of the locality are welcome to give a helping hand!

The local council is continuously striving to ensure that the locality is kept as clean as possible. Unfortunately, there are always people who simply do not bother to abide by the stipulated regulations. Then there are others who simply do not care and throw the rubbish wherever they feel like throwing it.
This problem is mainly seen during the summer months, when the locality increases in population. People should have, at least, the decency to leave the place as they found it. The real problem is that it is very difficult to catch red handed those who act in such an irresponsible way.
As for my availability at the council office, I have to state that I am in contact with the council office for several times every day. As rightly said by Ms. Grech, the mayor is not expected to stay at the office the whole day. Complaints which can be dealt with by the council staff are dealt with immediately, whilst I review or instruct, depending on the case, the action being taken on each complaint.

Dear Mr. Peter Abela,
Thanks for explaining that we should be happy with what we have at St Paul's and that the Sirens Public Toilet does not function because we are not 90% residents like Mellieha. That's the Spirit......
If you send a small questionnaire to people in our locality you will see what annoying people and if they are happy with the situation.

I read with regrets Anna Grech's comments and I ask of her to supply me with that name and details in the strctest of confidence. The council is there to help and not to be in any way ignorant to reason. ON MY PERSONLA EMAIL abelap01@gmail.com.
AS regards comparing Mellieha and San Pawl il Bahar please be aware that while Mellieha is a closed community where about 90% of the inhabitants are Locals. Apart from being native people one cannot ommit noticing that it seems they are more environmentally conscious. San Pawl Il Bahar is primarily a stepping stone for many or summer residences, unfortunately with less environementally conscious people, though one cannot say that for the permanent residents, who are suffering for the irresponsabitlities. Then there are irresponsable dog owners, whose love for their dogs, inconvene the law abiding citizens. THE MAYOR AND THE COUNCIL can only do so much, including playing the expensive game of COPS AND ROBBERS. an expense that can be put to better use. So I invite all good citizens to use the email address and council offices to to bring the baddies out and educate them. HELP US, TO HELP THEM, TO HELP YOU

I join the chorus and say that parking tickets are ONLY meted out to non-residents whilst residents may park in, restricted areas, double-yellow lines, they can also double park. The wardens are there for non-residents. St Paul's Bay is getting more and more Mafia style and the Mayor's there for excuses!!!!!!!!!!

Agree with Micallef
The local council does not function properly as the right persons finds it difficult to get involved. Most voters vote from 1 to 10 on candidates that they don’t even know, just to support there political parties! A good example can be seen clearly with Alfred Grima, smart, very hard worker, always running around and doing home visits etc .. and got about 900 votes. With big respect to Alex Bezzina got nearly the same amount of votes with out doing same hassle as Grima, just because he was on top of the ballot. The by-election system will continue adding more councillors in alphabetical order method

The Major like everyone else is entitled to her holidays, the question people should be asking who is left in charge looking after the shop in the Mayor’s absence?

I agree 100%, I think we will rank on the 1st place if they had to do the worst Local council in Malta.
It's unbeleivable if you drive just 5 minutes to Mellieha you would not tell it's the same country if you compare. If any of the readers would like to confirm so, just go to use the super luxury Public Toilet in Sirens.....Guess what they are still closed but you could use the mobile toilet like a 3 word country. No wonder we have lack of Turism in the North without even mentioneng Bugibba.
