Thousands had to make do without air conditioners and fans for an hour and a half yesterday when a power cut hit several towns and villages in Malta and Gozo.

Enemalta Corporation said one of the boilers at the Delimara power station developed a fault and tripped. Power was lost at about 2 p.m. The fault was immediately located and engineers worked fast to restore power by 3.30 p.m.

The areas affected were Tarxien, Marsascala, Buġibba, Mosta, Mellieħa, parts of Gozo, Żebbiegħ, Rabat, Mosta, Lija, Fgura, parts of Birkirkara and Msida. Many radio stations were also off air.

Last week, a localised fault caused a power cut affecting large areas of Birkirkara and Iklin.
