A car was extensively damaged by fire in Mqabba last night. The incident happened at 2.30 a.m. in Diamond Jubillee Square. No one was injured

Mqabba council described the incident as arson, saying this was the second vandal attack in the village in as many weeks.

It urged the authorities to find whoever was responsible so that the people could have peace of mind.

Informed sources said the car belonged to an officer at the civil prisons. The façade of his house was slightly damaged in the incident.

The blaze was put out by fire-fighters of the civil protection department.

A police officer's car was similarly damaged at Mqabba just under two weeks ago.

The Home Affairs Ministry condemned last night's incident and expressed its solidarity with the prison officer.
