A boat carrying 80 illegal migrants - from which a newborn girl was airlifted to Malta on Wednesday - returned to Libya yesterday afternoon after it was intercepted on the high seas by an Italian Navy vessel. The girl, who is reportedly in a good condition, is being kept for observation at Mater Dei Hospital.

The mother was released from hospital yesterday.

The boat was some 90 nautical miles south of Malta on Wednesday when an Italian Military Mission helicopter medically evacuated the mother and her baby girl who had been born at sea.
