Alan Montanaro, Helen O'Grady Academy principal in Malta, has been rewarded for helping children from socially disadvantaged backgrounds and marginalised communities to develop through drama.
Academy national director Nigel Le Page said Mr Montanaro had ensured the academy's name was recognised as the leader in self-development of children in his territory.
The concept and philosophy behind the academy is to provide children with a self-development programme specifically designed to increase their confidence, self-esteem, communicative ability and creative talents. It also imparts social skills that often do not come out at an academic level.
Mr Le Page presented the National Director's Award for Excellence to Mr Montanaro during a gala dinner held at the private residence of the Lord Mayor of Bristol, UK.
Mr Montanaro also received a letter from Jan Fidel, European Commission member responsible for education and culture in Brussels, who said the academy's approach based on drama and building self-confidence offered interesting opportunities to help young people to develop their full potential.
