Linking Dragonara Road to Pembroke
The promenade in Dragonara Road was not widened (Unbroken Promenade Planned From St Julians to St Paul's Bay, August 11). What happened was that the pavement was widened and resurfaced with new tiles when the tiles that were there before were still in a good state. The pavement was widened and the road is now narrower. This is a one-way road, so no problem. The railings still stand in their original place.
George Pullicino's comment, as quoted, "the widening of the road in St Julians" is therefore not correct. This embellishment, though, is appreciated and will be enjoyed by the many joggers who are seen jogging on the St Julians and Sliema promenade, especially during the early morning.
The embellishment has only been effected on one side of the road. A close look at the picture will let readers note the other side of the road.
This might be private property but it is an eyesore. It would be a good move for whoever is concerned to also embellish this part of the road.
Further up the road you come to an area close to the entrance of a hotel which at present has a dusty surface and which has not been developed.
This could have easily been surfaced while this development was taking place as it is on the same side of where the embellishment took place. It is never too late to complete the job.

Simply a waste of money and removal of parking to get more drivers ticketed.

The problem with this and having made the road a one-way towards Paceville means that there is only one way to circulate through Paceville. With all the bars, restaurants and discotheques in the area I dread to think what will happen in the case of an emergency. This also meant that more precious parking spaces were removed from the lower end of Dragonara Road (where there are still residents who have lived there for the last fifty years or so - long before all the entertainment establishments came into being).
A few weeks ago I needed to drive through Dragonara Road to get out of Paceville, but was delayed by a vehicle which had to stop in the middle of this street in order to deliver heavy crates of goods to a restaurant next to a Hotel and opposite the wall of the Dragonara complex. He had nowhere else to stop. The thing is that there already was a pavement on the houses side of the street so the new one was not really necessary.
How short sighted can we be!
