The Malta Red Cross - Gozo Branch has been engaged by the Ministry of Gozo to provide lifeguard services at Ramla Bay.
The society has a life guard contingent that has been trained according to International Life Saving Society's (ISL) standards. ILS are the main regulators in this sector in Europe. The life saving squad was formed and trained through the collaboration of the Italian Red Cross.
The ministry said the Red Cross divers are also placing marker buoys near the wrecks of the MV Xlendi, MV Karwela and MV Cominoland, making it easier for divers to locate them.
Last month it entrusted the society with the maintenance of warning signs around the wreck of the Xlendi.
A British diver died in the wreck last year and there were complaints that the warning signs were not very visible.
The ministry said the Red Cross divers have been performed regular checks and cleaned the warning signs.
