Legends of the 60s: MaltaPost denies it had tickets refund arrangement
MaltaPost p.l.c.said today that while it had been engaged by the organizer of the Legends of the 60s festival to sell tickets from its branch network, it had no arrangement with the organizer for refunding such tickets.
The cancellation of the festival was announced on Monday.
MaltaPost said it was not involved in the design of the tickets or the drafting of the relevant Terms and Conditions. No bar codes or other references on the tickets pertained to MaltaPost.
"Tickets were supplied by the organizer to MaltaPost p.l.c. ready for sale over its counters. Persons wishing to obtain a refund of their tickets should contact the festival organizer Mr Manuel Portelli directly on 79880582," MaltaPost said.
Earlier today MaltaTicket.com said that neither it nor its sales agents had anything to do with the events which had been scheduled for this weekend in Qawra.
CEO David Pollina said that the company had started receiving a high volume of calls and discovered that the organiser had duplicated MaltaTicket's Terms of Sale on the back of his tickets, even including MaltaTicket's customer service phone number.
Dr Pollina said the company was considering legal action against the organiser and MaltaPost which put their logo and sales barcode under the Terms of Sale and was engaged in selling the tickets.
On Monday Mr Portellli said people could obtain their refund from Maltapost from where the tickets were originally purchased. However, the company did not seem to know about this.
The festival was meant to be held at Ta' Fra Ben, culminating on Saturday with a show by British band UB40's former front man Ali Campbell and Maltese bands The Rifffs and Tribali.

Too many people in Malta walking about in Cowboy suits, its about time we see some Indians! Before dishing out cash make you there is a receipt or a condition in 6pt. print (very small text for most often in light grey that most just cannot see and read the conditions) that says money back guarantee.Just a thought! in the UK we have laws for such cancellations

To jcmicallef.
Cannot agree with you as Maltapost sold the tickets, therefore the public who bought the tickets FROM Maltapost has to be give a refund by Maltapost. Thne Maltapost has to sue the organiser for all the reasons that it can find. Would leave that to their lawyers.
But the public comes first as always. Without the public you have nothing!
To vpulis,
Yes we can to do something on this little piece of rock. The problem is that we have the wrong people in the right places. Don't forget some promoters are quite good while others are simply cowboys. Don't generalise please.
To all,
I have noticed that something was wrong about this concert in June/July as I was not convinced about the wording of the acts that were scheduled to appear.
A quick look for verification on the internet confirmed my doubts.
I did write about this in some of the English dailes on their site.
I used to organise rock events in the past and I have learnt from experience to advertise in a straight way, no overblown sensationalism!
You can't fool the people all the time.

As Maltapost accepted the responsibilty of selling the tickets for a show that has been postponed (a play with words-as it should say cancelled) within its branches, it is also responsibile to give out refunds.
I am sure that Maltapost didn't sell these tickets for nothing as a sort of favour or to be seen as so benevolent.
It is no use stating that it had no arrangement with Mr. Manuel Portelli as that should have been one of the conditions of sale.
As long as Maltapost accepted the money for tickets and issued a receipt ( I hope so as no issueing of a receipt would be against auditing law) then it has to give out the refunds as the transaction happened lawfully inside it's branches!
Incredibly Maltapost passed the buck by mentioning the organizer with his mobile number.
Which shows on how Maltapost is desperately squirming out of this mess!
Maltapost is holding money which does not belong to it for a venue that never happened.
In this matter, Maltapost with its silly stand has lost a lot of its reputation and the public's overall trust.
It behaved quite wrongly!
Give out the refunds, NOW, please!

This Portelli should be summoned to PHQ to answer some tough questions. First they pocket people's money and then everything goes nuts. and when they come to the pay back their ill gotten gains, they stummer.

What happened to the cash MaltaPost collected for the tickets? If the company still has the money it should refund it. I am assuming receipts were supplied at the point of sale.

M zammit..You really ask too much.....WHen you buy soemthing, do you check to see if its stolen.
Maltapost is a business, and it has got nothing to do with fraud control.

Hopefully this will teach a lesson to Maltapost, that it is to focus on its core business (handling and delivering postal items) rather than being a 'supermarket' like it is the case today ! Maybe if the privately owned Maltapost starts to focus again on its core business, it will start to offer the superior level of service that the old Posts department used to offer under the so called 'bureaucratic' government administration.

Can someone, truly tell me where can I get a refund for the tickets I purchased from Maltapost to attend the 60s legend concert? As usual and ONLY IN MALTA no one seems to be accountable on this island. I went to get a refund from Maltapost as instructed and they said that I had to contact the organizers. When I contacted the organizers that had their logo printed on the tickets, they said that they were not the actual organizers. I also tried several times to phone the organizer's number as given by MaltaPost but to no avail as I could not get through.
I expect to get refunded my money in full from MaltaPost as they sold me the tickets and I have the fiscal receipt to prove it.

So if, say I were to ask Maltapost Plc to sell tickets for a concert I'm going to organize and later I decide not to do the concert for whatever reason, Maltapost doesn't make any conditions so as to make sure that I do not have fraudulent intentions?

Too bad about the event being cancelled.
The refund is an issue that the organiser should face, though, and not shift on 'middlemen'.

This is getting more interesting by the minute. As Stan Llaurel would say "This is another fine mess you got me into!" Can't we do anything on this piece of rock without creating a disaster?
