I noted the article in last week's The Times, reporting the Mepa "swoop" on illegal sunbed and umbrella operations at Comino.

While I would not promote illegality in any way, I would like to point out that I and many other visitors to Comino have been very grateful for the provision of a deckchair and umbrella on occasions when I have enjoyed a swim there. I fear that many visitors will now be at the direct mercy of the sun, possibly placing a great strain on other services for the provision of First Aid for sunburn, sunstroke and related problems.

There is absolutely no shade to be found on Comino, particularly during the middle of the day, when no shadows are cast from overhanging rocks. While holidaying in Gozo and visiting beaches by car I usually take my own umbrella, however this is not feasible when visiting Comino because of its location. Bearing this in mind, would it be possible for Mepa to reach an accommodation with the Comino beach attendants to provide this much needed service?

Perhaps Mepa should deal with far more pressing issues, such as the constant, annual barrage of bird scarers, which reverberate all day in our holiday flat!
