Air Malta passengers can now check in and choose their seat via their mobile phones by visiting www.mobile-airmalta.com up to two hours before departure.

They will enter their name and flight number and then receive a bar-coded boarding pass as an image, which they must present at the airport.

Joe Cappello, Air Malta's chief executive, said: "Following the encouraging feedback and take-up of check-in through our web portal launched last year, we went a step further and are now offering check-in facilities through mobile phones.

"We are not only simplifying the check-in process but also, through reducing paper, we are helping our environment."

Although the service only covers outgoing flights it is also expected to be expanded to incoming flights too in the near future.
